Mildred from Minster
Mildred von Minster (also: Mildreda , Mildrith or Mildryth ; † July 13, 734 ) is an English Catholic saint.
biography
The date of birth of Mildred von Minster is unknown. She was born the daughter of King Merowald of Magonset and Princess Ermenburga of Kent in the second half of the 7th century. Her parents are the founders of Minster Abbey on Thanet Island in Kent . Mildred was educated at Chelles Abbey and then a nun at Minster. Her mother was already an abbess there . From the year 695 Mildred took over her office. Ermenburga was also venerated as a saint under the name of St. Aebbe.
Mildred von Minster died on July 13, 734. Her relics were kept in the monastery for almost 300 years. When Minster Monastery was conquered by the Danes in 1011 , the relics were brought to Canterbury . They were destroyed during the Reformation .
