Miles Jebb, 2nd Baron Gladwyn
Miles Alvery Gladwyn Jebb, 2nd Baron Gladwyn (March 3, 1930 - August 15, 2017 ) was a British peer , politician and author .
life and career
Jebb was born on March 3, 1930 to the politician and diplomat Gladwyn Jebb and Cynthia, Lady Gladwyn . He attended Eton College and later Magdalen College . In the latter, he graduated in 1953 with a Master of Arts .
Jebb served in the Welsh Guards as 2nd Lieutenant . In the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR) he was a lieutenant ( pilot officer ). From 1961 to 1983 he worked in the management of British Airways . Jebb was the author of several books. He wrote on historical subjects. In 2010 he published a biography of the poet and soldier Patrick Shaw-Stewart . Jebb was a member of the Hereditary Peerage Association .
Membership in the House of Lords
After the death of his father, he inherited the title of Baron Gladwyn and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . There he sat as a crossbencher . He first took his seat on December 4, 1996. He gave his inaugural address on March 19, 1997.
By the House of Lords Act 1999 he lost his seat. For one of the remaining seats he ran, but only achieved 33rd place in the Crossbencher. 28 seats were awarded for them. It was on the Register of Hereditary Peers .
family
Jebb was unmarried and had no children, which is why his title of nobility expired on his death.
