Miliduch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miliduch († 806 ) was a Sorbian ruler.

Research disagrees on the territory and constitutional position of Miliduch. According to the Annales regni Francorum , he was dux , i.e. prince. According to the Chronicon Moissiacense , he was king ( rex ).

The name is given differently in the source: The Royal Frankish Annals call him Miliduoch , in Chronicon Moissiacense to find the readings Melito and Nusito . Therefore, different spellings can be found in older and more recent research literature. In Sorbian it is commonly called Miliduch .

It is only known that in the spring or summer of 806 he was defeated and killed in a battle on the Elbe by the Frankish troops under the command of Charlemagne , a son of Charlemagne .

Et inde post non multos dies Aquasgrani veniens Karlum filium suum in terram Sclavorum, qui dicuntur Sorabi, qui sedent super Albim fluvium, cum exercitu misit; in qua expeditione Miliduoch Sclavorum dux interfectus est, duoque castella ab exercitu aedificata, unum super ripam fluminis Salae, alterum iuxta fluvium Albim.
