The military airfield Olenja ( Russian Аэродром Оленья , ICAO code XLMO ) is a military airfield of the Russian Northern Fleet .

The airfield and the associated settlement Vysoki are located near Olenegorsk in Murmansk Oblast . It was also intended as a springboard for missions of the Tupolev Tu-95 strategic bomber against the United States . On April 26, 1963, Fidel Castro landed on the airfield and was greeted by Anastas Mikojan .

Incidents

On January 22, 2019, a Tupolev Tu-22M3 aircraft crashed while approaching the airport in poor weather conditions . In the crash on the runway, three out of four crew members were killed.
