The Queen Astrid Military Hospital ( MHKA ; French Hôpital militaire Reine Astrid ; Dutch Militair Hospitaal Koningin Astrid ) is the hospital of the Belgian armed forces founded in 1974 . It is located on Rue Bruyn / Bruynstraat in the Queen Astrid district in Neder-Over-Heembeek ( Brussels-Capital Region ) in the north-west near the motorway ring .

In 1991, the MHKA was the first Belgian hospital with a multi-position hyperbaric chamber for hyperbaric oxygenation . An antidote center has been located in the MHKA since November 1996 . On June 17, 2009 a new burn center was opened. With an area of ​​around 10,000 m², it is one of the largest and most modern burn wound centers in Europe.

During the terrorist attacks in Brussels on March 22, 2016 , the large entrance hall served as a first aid point for the seriously injured who were recovered at Brussels-Zaventem Airport , first treated in the military hospital and transferred from there to the surrounding hospitals or treated on site in the burn injury center.

The MHKA has three core functions:
