The Military Wives are a British women's choir founded in 2011 by TV presenter Gareth Malone as part of his program The Choir: Military Wives . In 2011 it consisted of wives and girlfriends of members of the British Army from the barracks of the Royal Naval Base in Chivenor and the barracks in the Royal Citadel of Plymouth , who served in the war in Afghanistan . Thereafter , three more choirs had formed at the Portsmouth Naval Base , the Royal Marines Commando Training Center in Lympstone and the Catterick Garrison in northern England. The last three choirs mentioned also brought out the album In My Dreams under the name Military Wives.

description

The choir made its first public appearance on November 12, 2011 as part of The Royal British Legion's Remembrance Parade in the Royal Albert Hall in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II. The first single, Wherever You Are , a cover version of a recording, was released on December 19, 2011 by Paul Mealor . All proceeds from sales go to the Royal British Legion and the SSAFA Forces Help . An accompanying campaign, which is also supported by BBC Radio 2 , tries to make the single the winner in the race for the prestigious number 1 in the British singles charts during Christmas week . Even before its release, the single broke the UK record as the most pre-ordered music recording. According to information from the wholesaler Amazon , three times more copies were pre-ordered than of the album Progress by the band Take That .

At the Diamond Jubilee Concert on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the throne of Queen Elizabeth II , the song Sing by Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band was recorded, in which the Military Wives participated.

On July 27, 2012, the choir sang the United Kingdom's national anthem, God Save the Queen, at the official opening ceremony of the London Summer Olympics . By July 2012, almost 50 additional choirs had formed at other locations under the name Military Wives.
