Miljan Miljanić (born May 4, 1930 in Bitola , Kingdom of Yugoslavia , † January 13, 2012 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav football coach and functionary .

Career as a coach

Miljan Miljanić was born in Bitola in 1930 ; his family originally came from Nikšić . During his varied coaching career, he coached the Yugoslav national team three times and led them to the 1974 World Cup , where they were eliminated in the second final round, and to the 1982 World Cup , where they were eliminated in the first final round. The qualification for the European Championship 1980 in Italy was just missed. His career in club football was particularly successful, where he was able to celebrate seven titles with Red Star Belgrade in eight years. After the 1974 World Cup , he tried successfully abroad as a coach at Real Madrid . In the first season he led the team to the double and in the following season to defend the championship title. He tried the same even after the 1982 World Cup , when he as coach at Valencia CF took. However, this time he was not granted any success and he ended his coaching career.

As a functionary, Miljanić was first the President of the Yugoslav Football Association and, following its split, from 1992 to March 2001 the President of the Serbian Football Association . Miljan Miljanić died on January 13, 2012 after suffering from cancer for a long time.
