The Egyptologist Barnaby discovered that a hieroglyphic text contained an encrypted reference to a previously unknown and presumably not plundered pharaoh's tomb . He turns to the bored journalist Pierce. Pierce takes over the running of the company and puts together a small group of accomplices. The nobleman Grover, who takes his beloved on the desert expedition, appears as a patron .

While the group translates hieroglyphs in well-known graves to camouflage during the day and document them photographically, they go on a treasure hunt at night. After months they actually find the intact grave.

Varese, an official of the antiquities administration , uncovered the action, but did not make it public, but blackmailed the group to refrain from the robbery and to officially discover the grave.
