Milagros del Rosario "Milly" Quezada Borbón (born May 21, 1955 in Santo Domingo ), known as "La Reyna del Merengue ", is a Dominican singer.

Career

Quezada emigrated to the United States with her family in 1965. With her siblings Rafael and Martin, she founded her band Milly Con Los Vecinos (later Milly, Jocelyn y Los Vecinos ) in New York in 1975 , with whom she recorded her first album the following year. With titles like La Guacherna , Volvió Juanita and Tengo , the group had great international success in the 1970s and 1980s.

Recordings were made for the labels Algar Records, Barón Records, CBS Internacional, VO Records, Tropic Sun and Sony Music Tropical. In 1995 Quezada recorded the album En Tus Manos in memory of her late husband and manager Rafael Vásquez . In 1997, Sony Discos produced her first solo album, Hasta Siempre , which was also dedicated to her husband.

In 1998 Quezada recorded the album Milly Vive . For the Duo Para Darte Mi Vida with Elvis Crespo from this production, she was awarded the Premio lo Nuestro in the Dúo Tropical category. In 1999 she received a Billboard Music Award for the album in the category Album tropical femenino , and the production of the same name at the Teatro Nacional de Santo Domingo a Premio Casandra .

In 2001 Quezada received the Premio Casandra as Singer of the Year and was awarded the Orden de Cristóbal Colon by President Hipólito Mejía . With the album Pienso Asi she won another Billboard Award in 2003, as well as a Grammy and a Latin Grammy . The album MQ was similarly successful in 2005 (including the composition Quiero Ser by Ramón Orlando ). In 2006 she was awarded the El Congo del Oro for an appearance at the Carnaval de Barranquilla in Colombia .

In the same year Quezada made her debut as an actress in the Dominican film Juniol . In 2008 she was awarded the Orden al Merito Ciudadano in the auditorium of Columbia University by the Dominican embassy .
