Milo Cipra

Milo Cipra (born October 13, 1906 in Vareš , † July 9, 1985 in Zagreb , SFR Yugoslavia ) was a Yugoslav composer and university professor.

Life

Cipra first studied philosophy and German at the University of Zagreb before moving to Blagoje Bersa's composition class at the Zagreb Academy of Music. After graduating in 1933, he first worked as a high school teacher and from 1941 until his retirement in 1977 as a lecturer at the Zagreb Music Academy (Dean from 1961 to 1971).

The compositions of Cipra were initially under the influence of neoclassicism and took up elements of the folk music of his homeland. From the end of the 1950s he used a modified twelve-tone technique . His oeuvre includes orchestral compositions (including 2 symphonies), chamber music (including 5 string quartets) and vocal works.
