Milwaukee County Transit System

The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) is the largest local transit company in Wisconsin and the primary provider of public transportation in Milwaukee County . It ranks among the 50 largest public transport company of the United States . The county owned company was incorporated on June 1, 1975 after it took over the license of the Milwaukee & Suburban Transport Company, a privately held company.

Vehicle fleet

The MCTS operates a fleet of 416 New Flyer low-floor buses, 387 (384 in service; 3 inactive) in the 40 foot (12m) version and 29 (12 in service; 17 inactive) in the 30ft. (9m) variant, as well as 5 Gillig Advantage low-floor buses for use on the "Ozaukee County Express" (line 143).

Lines and tariffs

MCTS operates a little over 50 bus routes, covering around 90% of Milwaukee County and much of Waukesha County and Ouzakee Counties .

Price examples (as of January 3, 2010): The regular, non-discounted single adult ticket costs $ 2.25. Block tickets for 10 or a week are available for $ 17.50. A monthly pass costs $ 64.00. Single tickets are valid for two hours from the date of validation.

The MCTS is a member of the Southeast Wisconsin Transit System , a transport association that also owns the Waukesha Metro Transit and Wisconsin Coach Lines in Waukesha , Washington County Commuter Express , operated by Riteway Bus Service in Richfield, Wisconsin, Belle Urban System (THE BUS) in Racine and Kenosha Area Transit (KAT) in Kenosha .
