Minamoto Monogatari - 14 ways of temptation ( Japanese 君 物語 , Minamoto-kun Monogatari ) is a manga by the illustrator Minori Inaba , which has been published since 2011. The work is based on the Genji Monogatari of the court lady Murasaki Shikibu from the 11th century, which is sometimes said to be the first novel in the world.

The title itself is a play on words: On the one hand, it means “The story of Minamoto”, whereby kun is now a neutral Japanese salutation , but historically it was used as kimi for high-ranking people. Hikaru Genji, the protagonist of the Genji Monogatari, is referred to as Hikaru kimi ( 光君 , "Prince Hikaru; the shining prince"). On the other hand, Genji is largely synonymous with Minamoto . Thus, on the other hand, the characters of the title can also be understood as "The story of Prince Minamoto".

Since Terumi Minamoto in 8th grade attracted the jealousy of his classmates because of his attractive, girlish face and was teased by them for the whole school year, he has had a phobia of women. When he began his studies at Shiun University five years later, he resolved to finally overcome it. His father tells him that his lover is expecting a child from him, that he will marry her now and that the apartment is no longer big enough, which is why Terumi has to move out. Terumi is staying with his attractive aunt Kaoruko Fujiwara, who is a private lecturer at his university and who specializes in the novel Genji Monogatari .

Kaoruko stipulates that Terumi must help her with her research if he wants to live with her. In the novel, the prince Genji, who has a lot of love affairs, picks up the girl Murasaki and raises her to be his ideal lover. Kaoruko admires this kind of love. It will therefore educate him so, even with the help of her own body that Terumi loses only his fear of women to be a Casanova who in character to those from as to be Prince Genji and seduce 14 women Genji Monogatari are based . Terumi Minamoto ( 源 光 海 , Minamoto Terumi )

Terumi (18) started studying at Shiun University at the beginning of the storyline. He is described as a handsome androgynous boy, which is why he was teased by girls in middle school and developed a woman phobia. He likes older women and has a mother complex because he lost his mother at an early age. By training his aunt, in the course of which he receives his first kiss from her, he loses it, even though he often gives in to his sexual desires and acts hastily.

First, Kaoruko tells him to seduce his cousin Asahi, because his phobia of women will not get in the way with her as his relative. Since he misinterprets Asahi's behavior out of inexperience, his seduction succeeds only partially. So next is Aoi Kiriyama's turn, with whom he finally has his first time. When he then wishes for mutual love, he is introduced to the gentle and indulgent Chisato Hanada, who in turn has a male phobia. In her he sees a kindred soul and a suitable partner for his emotional and physical needs, but she does not love him as much as he loves her. Since he now has the desire to finally find a friend who loves him, he meets Miya Rokujō, who, however, idealizes him, is obsessed with him and is locked up at home. This experience increases his self-confidence, but it also shocks him so that Kaoruko contrasts him with the innocent affection of a child in Shian Kowaka. With his increased self-confidence, he then succeeds in helping girls who have love problems themselves, such as Iyo Semi, who is in a loveless relationship that she does not have the courage to break out of, or Yū Tokonatsu, who has dedicated her life to sports and now want to experience love.

His literary model in the Genji Monogatari is Prince Hikaru Genji, the first character of Terumi being the same as in Hikaru and Minamoto synonymous with Genji.

Kaoruko Fujiwara ( 藤原 香 子 , Fujiwara Kaoruko )

Kaoruko (29) is an attractive woman that every man turns to. In the Japanese original she is his father's sister - in the German version the sister of a neighbor and friend of the family - and a private lecturer at his university as well as a recognized expert on the Genji Monogatari , which is why, in order to better understand it, she uses a reverse Hikaru-Genji -Plan invented. The Hikaru-Genji-Plan ( 光源 氏 計画 , Hikaru Genji keikaku ) in Japan describes Prince Genji's plan to take in a young girl and raise her up to be an ideal companion at will, which Kaoruko is planning to do with Terumi. Kaoruko has a very good knowledge of human nature, but himself is opaque and always composed. In order for Terumi to overcome his phobia of women, she uses her own body, which slowly escalates: First, she gives Terumi his first kiss to introduce him to the woman's body, and to keep a cool head in sexual situations, he should give her breasts touch and sleep in bed with her, or she undresses in front of him.

Asahi Momozono ( 桃園 朝日 , Momozono Asahi )

Asahi is Kaoruko's niece and Terumi's cousin in the Japanese original. She is 21 and is studying literature in her eighth semester in order to later become a librarian. She is a fan of erotic shōjo manga and, despite her age, has never had a relationship or male acquaintances, as she attended a girls' school before studying. Kaoruko suggests that she put a word in at a library when she goes on a date with Terumi. At this she receives her first kiss from him, which makes her freeze in shock, and what Terumi incorrectly interprets as meaning that he is allowed to go on. After forgiving him, Terumi confesses his love to her and approaches her aggressively, ending with foreplay. Then Asahi offers him to become his girlfriend, but only want to have a platonic relationship, which Terumi refuses.

Asahi's role model in Genji Monogatari is the priestly maiden ( saiin ) Asagao no kimi ( 朝 顔 の 君 , German "Princess Asagao"), the daughter of Prince Momozonos and cousin Genji. For years, Genji tried in vain to seduce Asagao, but she always left it with a platonic love .

Aoi Kiriyama ( 桐山 葵 , Kiriyama Aoi )

Aoi (24) is a friend of Kaoruko. She comes from an entrepreneurial family and is the professional manager of a nail salon. She is of a dainty figure and an undercooled beauty who receives many requests. Kaoruko picks her after the failure with Asahi so that Terumi learns not to get out of hand out of lust. Her father is a well-known company boss and Aoi has an Elektra complex opposite him , where she throws herself into substitute relationships out of compensation, in which she is the dominant part, since she does not recognize other men as equal. At first she treats Terumi like a toy, but introduces him to physical love so that Terumi has his first time with her. However, she has a habit of shouting "Father" during the act.

Her literary role model is Aoi no ue ( 葵 の 上 , dt. "Lady Aoi"), daughter of the minister on the left , who was married to 12-year-old Genji at the age of 16 and always remained aloof and cold towards him.

Chisato Hanada ( 花田 千里 , Hanada Chisato )

Chisato (18) studies at the Shiun home economics school and also works in a noodle restaurant. She has a gentle, domestic character with an unremarkable appearance and a friendly pleasant smile. She is a somewhat old-fashioned girl who always puts others before herself. She already had large breasts for her age in 4th grade, which is why she was raised by the boys and developed a phobia of men. When she consults Kaoruko about this, she suggests that she become Terumi's girlfriend for a month on a trial basis. Because of her indulgent nature, he quickly seduces her and she has her first time with him. While Terumi has truly fallen in love with her, while she likes him and is grateful to him for helping her overcome her phobia, she is unsure of actually loving him, so the relationship ends in friendship.

Her template is Hanachirusato ( 花 散 里 ), which is described as not particularly attractive, but warm-hearted and Genji always forgave everything.

Miya Rokujō ( 六条 美 也 , Rokujō Miya )

Miya, 25, is a computer science tutor at Terumis University. It was originally planned by Kaoruko as Terumi's third conquest. However, when Terumi hears of the nature of her literary role model, he asks Kaoruko to give him someone to have a normal relationship with so that she first introduces him to Chisato. After Terumi cannot receive love from Asahi, Aoi and Chisato for the time being, Kaoruko introduces him to Miya, who can give it to him. She fell in love with him five years ago during her legal clerkship at his school. However, she is obsessed with him and locks him up at her home. Kaoruko, aware of Miya's character, told Miya about her Hikaru Genji plan to get Miya's cooperation. The relationship with Miya and her strong love and sex should give Terumi the necessary self-confidence for further conquests. Kaoruko finally steps in when Miya tries to monopolize Terumi and ends the relationship for the time being, especially since she knows that Miya will continue to love him.

It is based on Rokujō no miyasudokoro ( 六条 御 息 所 ), Genji's possessive lover who later became a vengeful ghost and cursed his other wives. In the manga she is referred to as the first Yandere in literary history.

Shian Kowaka ( 小 若 紫 亜 , Kowaka Shian )

After the shock with Miya, Kaoruko introduces him to 10-year-old Shian as his future Murasaki.

The Shi in her first name is the same character as in Murasaki, which is introduced into the novel as Waka Murasaki ( 若 紫 ), "young Murasaki".

Iyo Semi ( 瀬 見 伊 予 , Semi Iyo )

Iyo Semi (27) is a saleswoman in the university store. She wears glasses, has low self-esteem and is jealous of young people, which often drowns her in alcohol. Semi has a relationship with a man who only meets her when he feels like it, while she doesn't really love him and just doesn't break up with him out of indolence. She has a one-night stand with Terumi, as she never expected anyone other than her current boyfriend, and a far younger one, would ever take a liking to her. Although her boyfriend has not visited her for two months, she knows that her boyfriend is cheating on her and Terumi loves her, but she stays with her boyfriend, even though her pessimism is now gone.

Her role model in Genji Monogatari is Utsusemi ( 空 蝉 ), who is grieved that she could not get closer to her husband and still had an affair with Genji for one night.

Yū Tokonatsu ( 常 夏 夕 , Tokonatsu Yū )

Yū (22) is a fitness club trainer and speaks a Kansai dialect . She has been sick many times since childhood, was in hospital until she was 19, and then devoted herself to sports to improve her health so that she has no experience with men. Terumi meets her when he is doing sports to become more muscular and therefore less feminine. Because of her affable nature, Terumi befriends her quickly and also meets with her outside of the gym. She longs to find the love she seeks in Terumi.

In Genji Monogatari is its counterpart yugao ( 夕顔 ), also Tokonatsu called.

Others

Tsukiko ( 月 子 )

Tsukiko is Asahi's classmate and friend. She dresses as Gothic Lolita and writes erotic stories that she gives Asahi and then Terumi to read. Tsukiko has no experience with the opposite sex either, but gets along well with Terumi.

She has a little sister, Nagiko ( 凪 子 ), who is still attending school and who is a big fan of Kaoruko and the Genji Monogataris , so she tries to imitate their language.

Tsukasa Chūjō ( 中将 つ か さ , Chūjō Tsukasa )

Tsukasa was the ringleader for the bullies at Terumi's middle school. There she was considered the prettiest girl in school, but felt her pride hurt when her crush said Terumi was prettier. She is also studying at Shiun University in the Liberal Arts Faculty . With the help of Kaoruko, Terumi discovers that Tsukasa is having an affair with a married professor, whereupon she tries to silence him by seduction. However, Terumi opposes her and manages to push her into reserve, whereby he manages to finally overcome his trauma.

The work was licensed by Panini Comics for the German-speaking countries and has been published as Minamoto Monogatari - 14 Ways of Temptation since March 2015 . in ten volumes so far. The manga is published in Taiwan by Sharp Point Press and in France under the English title Love Instruction - How to become a seductor by Soleil.

In the German version, the family relationships were changed and the protagonist's aunt became a family friend and his cousin became a mere childhood friend, which weakened the relationship to the historical novel.

Light novel

On October 17, 2014, a spin-off was published as a light novel by Hajime Tanaka called Minamoto-kun Monogatari: Narabi no Maki ( 源 君 物語 並 び の 巻 ; ISBN 978-4-08-703335-9 ).
