The Minazuki ( Japanese 水 無 月 , Eng. "June") was a destroyer of the Mutsuki class of the Imperial Japanese Navy .
history
The ship was built by the Uraga Dock Co. and was launched on May 25, 1926. The commissioning took place on March 22, 1927 and on 1928 it was christened Minasuki , as it was previously only named with a number (No. 28).
During the Battle of the Philippines , the destroyer was part of the Japanese invasion fleet and supported landings on the Gulf of Lingayen and Aparri . After that, the Minazuki was used for transport tasks and as escort, including for the Tokyo Express .
The destroyer was killed on June 6, 1944 while escorting a tanker convoy from the American submarine USS Harder off Tawi-Tawi, at 4 ° 5 ′ N , 119 ° 30 ′ E torpedoed and sunk. 45 survivors were taken in by the destroyer Wakatsuki . She was the only ship of her class that was lost in a submarine attack.
