The Fumizuki ( Japanese 文 月 , dt. "July") was a destroyer of the Mutsuki class of the Imperial Japanese Navy .
history
The ship was built by Fujinagata Sb. Co. in Osaka and was launched on February 16, 1925. The commissioning took place on July 3, 1926 and in 1928 it was baptized with the name Fumizuki , as it had previously only been named with a number (No. 29).
During the Pacific War it supported the Japanese landings on the Gulf of Lingayen and on Aparri ( Battle of the Philippines ). It was also used to escort convoys to Songkhla , British Malaya , French Indochina and the invasion of Java . The destroyer also drove missions on the Tokyo Express .
The Fumizuki was torpedoed by carrier aircraft on February 17, 1944 as part of Operation Hailstone , killing 29 crew members. The ship sank on February 18, at the coordinates: 7 ° 24 ' N , 151 ° 44' O .
