Goba (company)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Goba AG until 2013 Mineral Gontenbad AG is the hamlet Gontenbad in the political community Gonten above or west of Appenzell . She describes herself as a goba, mineral spring and manufactory .

Bathing operation

Mineral-rich spring water from an upland moor has been used for bathing and drinking in Gonten since at least 1576 . When the bathing business reached its peak in the 18th and 19th centuries, appropriate bathing facilities were set up for the guests. The website of the municipality of Gonten mentions the Jakobsbrunnen ( 1515  m above sea level ) (named after St. Jakob ) on the northern slope of the Kronberg , west of the St. Jakob chapel (1450 m), after which the Jakobsbad district also takes its name. There was a lively bathing activity there until the First World War .

Beverage company

In 1930, Josef Schmidiger first bottled lemonade that had been produced with Gontener mineral water. From this a small company developed that supplied the regional trade and gastronomy with mineral water and lemonades. In 1956 Josef Manser-Schmidiger joined the company and in 1968 the stock corporation Mineralquelle Gontenbad AG was founded with its seat in Gonten , in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden and entered in the commercial register. In 1996 new spring versions were created and in 1999 Gabriela Manser took over the management of her parents' business as a lateral entrant. Under her leadership, sales rose from 2.2 to 10 million Swiss francs within 6 years, and the number of employees from 9 to 24. Since 2007 there have been around 30 employees. In 2005 Gabriela Manser was named Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the Year .

Originally marketed as GOBA ( Go nten ba d), the mineral water is now sold as Appenzeller mineral water . The lemonades citro, grapefruit and orange are also made; Bergamot and Himbo have disappeared from the range again. The blossom spring specialties, especially flauder , are known far beyond the region . Other products in this series were called Himml (heaven) and Wonder (wonder). In 2010, two new Flauder products (Flauder Elderberries and Flauder Quince-Rhubarb) and Goba Cola (with approx. 55% lower physiological calorific value than comparable products thanks to sweetener from the stevia plant ) were launched. Since 2012, the Goba range has also included an organic iced tea, the Flauder “iisfee”.
