The Mingəçevir Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Azerbaijan and one of the largest in the Caucasus . It is located near the city of Mingəçevir .

The Kura is dammed up . The reservoir is used to generate electricity, irrigation and flood protection . The hydropower plant generates an output of 360 MW at a head of 65 m with six Francis turbines . It was commissioned in 1955 and for a long time was the largest power plant in the Caucasus. It is operated by Azerenergy.

The earth dam is 80 m high and its crown is 1550 m long.

The reservoir is 605 km² (620 km² are also given) and has a storage volume of 16.1 billion m³, of which 9 billion are usable space. Its average depth is 26.6 m and its maximum depth is 75 m. It is approx. 70 km long and up to 18 km wide.

Two canals lead from the reservoir, one is 172 km long and the other 123 km.
