Mini South Pacific Games 1981

The South Pacific Mini Games 1981 were held from July 7 to 16, 1981 in Honiara , Solomon Islands and were the first edition of this event. Participants from 16 nations determined the medal winners in a total of 51 decisions in five sports.

The event was planned as part of the organization of the "big" South Pacific Games in order to halve the four-year gap between them. In the future, the event location should be countries to which the South Pacific Games cannot be held due to their size. The 1981 South Pacific Mini Games opened on the third anniversary of the Solomon Islands' independence from the United Kingdom . In the course of the games, disagreements and boycott announcements regarding the South Pacific Games in 1983 were resolved in dialogue.
