The Minipi River , also Minai-nipiu-shipu , is a right tributary of the Churchill River in the southeast of the Labrador Peninsula in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .
River course
The Minipi River forms the outflow of the approximately 339 m high 52 km long Minipi Lake . It leaves the lake at its northwestern end and flows 60 km in a predominantly northwestern direction to the Churchill River. The mouth is at a height of about 60 m . The Churchill River, coming from west-northwest, turns to the north following the confluence of the Minipi River.
Hydrology
The Minipi River drains an area of about 2900 km². At the gauge at river kilometer 55 below Minipi Lake, the mean discharge is 56 m³ / s. In June, when the snow melts , the river usually carries the largest amount of water with a long-term average of 157 m³ / s.
Wildlife
In the river system of the Minipi River probably following types of fish: three-spined and nine-spined stickleback , brook trout , pike and Arctic Norway and the Redhorse TYPES Catostomus Catostomus (longnose sucker) and Catostomus commersonii (white sucker). The Muskrat Falls on the Churchill River prevent fish migration of anadromous salmon in the Minipi River. Beavers , muskrats , American water shrews and North American river otters use the river as a habitat. On the banks of the water and in the wetlands, you can find Wilsonbe cassins , greater yellow thighs , belt fishermen , Canada goose , middleman and Odin's chickens .
