The Ministry of People's Security ( kor. 인민 보안부) is the law enforcement agency of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and reports to the State Affairs Committee of the DPRK ( National Defense Commission until June 2016 ) .

tasks

The tasks of the Ministry of Public Security include not only monitoring the food distribution mechanism but also providing bodyguards for important people in the country. Furthermore, general information about the population is collected and, if necessary, measures are taken. In cases of political explosiveness, the investigation is handed over to the Ministry of State Security .

To this end, the authority operates all re-education camps ( Kyo-hwa-so ) and internment camps ( Kwan-li-so ) in the country.

The responsible Minister is entitled Minister of Public Safety . Choe Pu-il ( PdAK) has held the office since February 2013 .

The agency employs 210,000 people nationwide.

The ministry is located in the Pyongyang district of Sŏsŏng-guyŏk ( Dong Ryŏnmot-dong / Wasan-dong ).
