The Minju-nodong party ( Korean : 민주 노동당 , transliteration : Minju-nodong-dang , in German : Democratic Workers' Party ) was a party in South Korea that existed from 2000 to 2011 and represented democratic socialism .
history
The Minju-nodong-dang was founded on January 30, 2000 and first achieved 13.03% and 10 seats in the April 2004 elections to the parliament in South Korea. One of the founders of the party was Kwon Young-gil ( 권영길 ), who competed in the 1997 presidential election and won 1.2% of the vote. In 2002 he was able to unite 3.9% of the vote.
There was rivalry between two directions in the party. The “Equality” wing, represented by the “People's Democracy” group, campaigned for a focus on the issues of social welfare and civil rights . The “National Liberation” group, which represented the “independence” wing, was more strongly oriented towards Korean nationalism and rapprochement with North Korea , and was emphatically anti-American . The conflict culminated during the 2007 presidential election campaign, after which members of the People's Democracy group resigned and founded the Jinbo-sin Party ( 진보 신당 , New Progressive Party).
On December 5, 2011, the Minju-nodong Party merged with the People's Participation Party and a compromise-ready part of the Jinbo-shin Party and merged into the Tonghap-jinbo Party ( 통합 진보당 , United Progress Party).
