Mircea Luca (born August 3, 1921 in Zalau ; † July 28, 2008 ) was a Romanian football player .
Athletic career
Luca played for Universitatea Cluj when she was young . In the late 1930s he made his debut for the club's competition team, with whom he ran up to his end of career in 1956 in Divizia A and Divizia B among others at the side of Ștefan Kovács . In the final of the Romanian Cup in 1948/49 , he narrowly missed a title win by a 2-1 defeat against CSCA Bucharest . From 1959 he coached the club for a while, which was then called Știința Cluj in the first division.
Luca worked full-time as a doctor and held a doctorate . He died in the summer of 2008 shortly before his 87th birthday. In his honor , a statue was posthumously erected in front of the Cluj Arena , home of his longstanding club.
