Mirko Bernau (born July 2, 1975 in Schwelm ) is a former German handball player and handball trainer .
Career
Mirko Bernau started playing handball in the youth department of LTV Wuppertal . The left-hander TUSEM Essen later joined , with whose A-youth he won the German championship in 1994 and the Euro City Cup with the men's team in the same year . His next stop was Bundesliga club TSV Bayer Dormagen . When Dormagen voluntarily withdrew to the regional league after the 2000/01 season , his contract was terminated and he joined the Bundesliga club HSG Wetzlar . He left Wetzlar in November 2001 and then played for the second division HSG Düsseldorf . After Düsseldorf rose to the Bundesliga in 2003/04, his contract was not extended, after which he joined the regional division TV Korschenbroich . Bernau was under contract with Korschenbroich until February 2008 and ran in the 2006/07 season with TVK in the 2nd Bundesliga . He then joined the regional division Borussia Mönchengladbach . From the summer of 2008, the outside player was active for one season as a player-coach at the association league club Kettwig 70. In 2009, the regional league team OSC 04 Rheinhausen signed him , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga a year later. From January 2011, Bernau, who was also involved as the sports director of the OSC, only played sporadically as a player. After the 2013/14 season, he ended his work at OSC. In April 2014 he played two games for the Solinger Turnerbund club.
From December 2014 he ran for the Lower Rhine Association League club TSV Aufderhöhe. Later he moved to the 2nd team of TSV Aufderhöhe. From March 2017 until the end of the 2016/17 season he took over the first men's team at TSV Aufderhöhe.
Bernau played 23 international matches for the German national team , in which he scored eight goals. With the German selection, he took part in the 2001 World Cup in France .
Bernau has been with Bergischer HC since the 2018/19 season as the sporting director and coach of the 2nd team.
