Miroslav Peris

Miroslav Peris (born 1961 in Sošice , formerly Yugoslavia , now Croatia ; † September 14, 1993 in Vrginmost , Croatia) was a fighter pilot in the Croatian Air Force during the war in Croatia .

Life

Miroslav Peris was born in Sošice in Žumberak in Croatia. He came from a Greek Catholic Uskok family . During the Croatian war he was active as a fighter pilot. Its military tasks consisted, among other things, in preventing enemy fire on the Croatian towns / cities of Samobor , Kutina , Jastrebarsko and Karlovac . On September 14, 1993, he volunteered to fight Serbian artillery positions in the Banovina region . During the return flight, his MiG-21 was shot down over the village of Stipani, killing him. This makes him one of four pilots in the Croatian armed forces who died in combat.

For his commitment, he was posthumously awarded the Prince Domagoj Order with a collar . The Croatian Ministry of Defense honored the 25th anniversary of his death with a commemorative exhibition which, in addition to personal items, also presented parts of the aircraft wreck.
