Mirza Hameedullah Beg

Mirza Hameedullah Beg (born February 22, 1913 in Lucknow , † November 19, 1988 ) was an Indian lawyer.

Life

Mirza Hameedullah Beg comes from a prominent Muslim family in Hyderabad ; his father, Mirza Samiullah Beg, was the chief judge of the state of Hyderabad . Beg studied first in Hyderabad and then from 1931 at Cambridge University and at the London School of Economics . He later returned to India and was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India from January 1977 to February 1978 . After his retirement, Beg took over the office of chairman of the Minorities Commission of India from 1981 to 1988. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1988 .
