Mirza Mughal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mirza Mughal (* 1828 ; † 1857 ) was the fifth son of the last Indian Grand Mogul , Bahadur Shah II. His mother was one of the leading figures in the Harem of the Grand Mogul. At the request of the Grand Mughal, however, Mirza Jawan Bakht , who came from the connection with his favorite wife Zinat Mahal , was the designated heir to the throne .

Mirza Mugal took on a leading role in the Indian uprising of 1857 , making him one of the few people in the royal household to actively support the uprising. Mirza Mugal may have linked this with the hope of securing the line of succession. He was instrumental in organizing the uprising in Delhi and was shot by British officer William Hodson after his capture .
