Michael Weissenberger
Michael Weißenberger (born March 11, 1959 in Würzburg ) is a German classical philologist .
Life
Weißenberger studied from 1977 to 84 classical philology, history , archeology and comparative linguistics at the universities of Würzburg and Heidelberg . In 1983/84 he passed the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools in Bavaria and then worked from 1984 to 1987 as a research assistant with Bernd Manuwald at the University of Düsseldorf . After graduating as Dr. phil. In 1986 he received a position there as an academic councilor in 1987 . In 1994 he completed his habilitation in Classical Philology.
In 1998 he accepted a position at the University of Greifswald , where he worked from 1999 to 2013 as a C4 professor for Greek studies . When the Classical Philology course was discontinued in 2013, he was seconded to the Heinrich Schliemann Institute for Classical Studies at the University of Rostock .
Weißenberger deals with Greek literature up to late antiquity. His main research interests are Greek rhetoric and Greek literature of the imperial era . Since summer 2001 he has been co-editor of the magazine Lustrum , for which he wrote an extensive research report on the Attic orator Lysias over the years 1905–2000.
