With 168,280 inhabitants (2012), Moratuwa is the third largest city in Sri Lanka after Colombo and Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia . It is located in the Western Province , south of the capital Colombo, directly on the Indian Ocean . The University of Moratuwa, founded in 1966 with around 4,000 students, is one of the best technical universities in the country.
