Mishel Tereshchenko ( Ukrainian Мішель Терещенко , French Michel Terestchenko ; born September 15, 1954 in Paris , France ) is a Franco- Ukrainian entrepreneur, patron and local politician. From 2015 to 2018 he was the mayor of the northern Ukrainian city of Hluchiw .

Life

Mishel Tereshchenko, born in Paris, is the grandson of the large landowner, sugar manufacturer and Minister of the Provisional Government of Russia Mikhail Ivanovich Tereshchenko . His father was a chemist and scientist in France, doing research on canola biofuel technologies. Mishel Tereshchenko grew up in France and graduated from business school. He then served as an officer in the Navy. In 1994 he visited Ukraine for the first time as a tourist. Since 2003 he has lived permanently in Hluchiw, the home of his famous ancestors, and in Kiev.

After living in Ukraine for more than ten years, where he founded the Tereschtschenko Heritage Foundation , President Petro Poroshenko granted Ukrainian citizenship in March 2015 . In the same year he became mayor of the city of Hluchiw in Sumy Oblast with 64.58% of the vote and held this office until September 2018. As a farmer, he also cultivates flax and technical hemp. At the beginning of October 2018, he announced his intended candidacy for president in the 2019 presidential election in Ukraine .
