Miss Lupun is a number and logic puzzle. The name "Miss Lupun" is an anagram of "Plus Minus".
The board game variant Miss Lupun and the Secret of Numbers was published in July 2011 and is published by the international game publisher Winning Moves.
history
The inventors , owners and managing directors of the Miss Lupun brand are Thomas Sing and Ralf-Peter Gebhardt. The original idea of the riddle is based on the theory of harmony . At first, Miss Lupun was a riddle that could be solved acoustically on the piano . The ups and downs of semitone steps had to be determined when changing from one chord to another. When translating it into mathematics, the puzzle arose as it is in circulation today.
The puzzle first appeared in July 2008 in the Russian-German monthly newspaper "Heimat". In Germany it became known through its inclusion on the puzzle page of the "Konstanzer Anzeiger" and the PM-Kreativtrainer, in whose successor PM Logic Trainer it still appears today (as of 2020). Since then it has been published regularly by more and more newspapers and magazines. Lupun-Verlag has so far published Miss Lupun Volume 1 with 100 puzzles in levels of difficulty 1 to 5, Miss Lupun Volume 2 for advanced users with 75 puzzles in levels of difficulty 3 to 7 and Miss Lupun Volume 3 with 88 selected puzzles in levels of difficulty 1 to 8 . Since July 2009, is the puzzle world as iPhone - application in the languages English, French, Italian, German, russian and Czech available.
procedure
In the standard version, a Miss Lupun puzzle consists of 4 columns and 6 lines. The top and bottom lines are given. To get from the 4 starting numbers to the 4 ending numbers, 4 small calculations have to be carried out line by line. The calculation steps for this are between the lines, but not in the correct order, but sorted by size. Each calculation must result in a number from 0 to 9. The newly calculated number is written directly below the previous number. As an aid, there is sometimes a single number between two adjacent boxes. This indicates the numerical difference between the two boxes. The solution to the riddle is only found if the calculation works out from top to bottom. Miss Lupun is available in levels of difficulty from 1 to 9.

With 4 columns and 6 rows, 10,000 to the power of 6 = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (1 quadrillion) different Miss Lupun puzzles can be formed. Since the top and bottom lines of the puzzle and the differences between the lines are given, there are 4 each in the solution space! to the power of 4 = 331,776 possibilities available.

In addition to the standard variant, there are the variants "Miss Lupun Plus" for number professionals and "Miss Lupun quickt" as a lateral thinker puzzle.

Miss Lupun puzzles can be solved between 1 and 30 minutes, depending on the degree of difficulty. Every single Miss Lupun puzzle is tested by test solvers for fun and difficulty. The average solution times of these test solvers form the basis for the total of 9 levels of difficulty of the Miss Lupun puzzles.
Miss Lupun puzzles are a playground for mathematicians . When dealing with the puzzle mathematically, elements of matrix calculation and elementary number theory can be used. Some puzzles are based on the dual system . Links with geometry are also interesting. There are Miss Lupun puzzles that are based on point symmetry or axis symmetry and that can only be resolved conclusively with this background knowledge.
Miss Lupun is more than a riddle now. The fans call themselves the Lupuners and have started to spin stories about Miss Lupun. For example, Miss Lupun is said to have come from Egypt and was the first woman in the Pythagorean league . However, there is no historical evidence for speculation of this kind.
Solution methods
Simple Miss Lupun puzzles can be solved simply by observing the basic rule that negative and two-digit numbers are not allowed. Special attention should be paid to Hohen Verdis and Hordis (7, 8, 9) because they usually significantly limit the number of possible permutations in a line. More logical understanding and combination skills are required to solve the medium and difficult puzzles. There is a solution algorithm for these Miss Lupun puzzles, but so far no generally applicable best approach. Each puzzle holds an individual secret and enables an aha-experience when this secret is discovered.
Miss Lupun, the super cool puzzle school
An educationally interesting concept is pursued in volume 4 for children, "Miss Lupun, the super-cool puzzle school". There, above the Miss Lupun riddle, a funny and informative riddle question is asked first (e.g .: In which year did Pippi Longstocking appear). With the solution of the Miss Lupun riddle, the children also receive the answer to the riddle question asked about it. On the back of the puzzle, in addition to the answer, further explanations of the puzzle question are given.
Board game Miss Lupun and the Secret of Numbers
Miss Lupun and the Secret of Numbers is an easy to understand, exciting strategy game for 2 to 6 people, in which everyone from school children to gaming professionals gets their money's worth.
Each player has 10 pieces with numbers 0 to 9. With these numbers each player tries to solve 3 arithmetic or placement problems on a rectangular board with 4 × 6 fields. The players get in each other's way with their tasks, whether they like it or not - or inadvertently provide assistance. Miss Lupun and the Secret of Numbers are not only an incredibly exciting game, but also a highly emotional game in which anger and joy are very close together.
