overview

Charts

The song reached number 6 in the UK singles chart and was a top 10 hit in many other European countries.

background

The song tells the story of a miss election in 1993 during the siege of Sarajevo in the Bosnian War . The winner Inela Nogić, shown in the video for the song, and her colleagues showed a large banner with the inscription "Don't let them kill us" and appealed to the defenders of the city and to the world community who were trapped in Sarajevo through the Miss election Don't let people down.

content

The song repeatedly asks whether there is a time for everyday activities and cultural traditions such as B. Shopping, making up, listening to pop music, praying in the direction of Mecca, making preparations for Christmas and other "normal", peaceful activities in the middle of a war. This chain culminates in the question "Is there a time to be a beauty queen?" Instead of an answer, the ritualized presentation of the beauty queen follows: "Here she comes", but in view of the war background, it is broken into the addition "... surreal in her crown".
