The Missionaries of Christ ( abbreviation MC ) are a society of apostolic life in the Roman Catholic Church . The apostolic community was founded on December 8, 1956 by the Sacred Heart missionary Father Christian Moser in Freilassing , among other things to support the mission of the Sacred Heart Missionaries in the Congo . The sisters work in various professions, such as nurses, social workers, geriatric nurses, alternative practitioners, community clerks, university professors, musicians, teachers and lawyers.

In 1958, two sisters began serving the Missionaries of Christ in what was then the Belgian Congo. Today the 134 sisters work in five countries: Germany, Austria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Brazil (since 1966) and South Africa (since 1999). The first sisters lived in Freilassing until 1958, after which the seat of the community was relocated to Rebdorf near Eichstätt. The Generalate has been in Munich since 1974. In 1991 the community was recognized as a society of apostolic life.

The missionaries of Christ promise the evangelical counsels : poverty, celibacy and obedience. At the beginning there is a one-year postulate , which is followed by a two-year novitiate . After two time promises, each lasting three years, promises are made for life.

The community is organized into three regions. The sisters live in groups in the individual houses or apartments. The size of the groups is between three and six sisters, with the exception of the generalate and some sisters living alone.
