Mistigri (card game)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mistigri , also known as monk or Mouche , Lentule , Pamphile or Trente et un , is a card - gambling for three or four players, but which can be played with more players and depending on the number of players with a sheet of 32, 36 or 52 cards is played. The way it is played is a trick- taking game, but it also contains elements similar to poker . It is related to the historical card game Typing

The game is named after the “Mistigri” (French for “the kitty” or “the kitten”) or the “Mönch”, the jack of clubs, which can be used as the highest trump and as a joker.

Style of play

As a rule, Mistigri is played with a classic French Skat sheet with 32 cards and chips as a bet . Alternatively, 36 to 52 cards can be used, depending on the number of players. The aim of the game is to have five cards of the same suit (" flush ") in your hand in the first phase after swapping , or to have high and trump cards as possible for the second phase in order to get one or more tricks .

The "Mistigri" or "Mönch": The jack of clubs is basically the highest trump and can be used as a joker for the flush .

At the beginning each player places a previously agreed bet in the middle of the table. The dealer shuffles the cards and lets withdraw, then he first distributes three and then two more cards to each player including himself. He turns over the top card of the remaining pile to determine the trump . In addition, the “Mistigri”, the jack of clubs, is always the highest trump regardless of the particular trump suit. The player who has the Mistgri in hand may also choose any trump suit.

The players can now, depending on their hand of cards, pass and thus get out of the round or call and exchange any number of cards with the dealer for new cards. To do this, the remaining players, beginning with the player to the left of the dealer ( forehand ), place the cards they want to exchange face down in front of them and receive the corresponding number of cards from the dealer.

If a player has five cards of the same color in hand after the exchange round ("fly"), he wins the game and receives the full stake plus the same amount from everyone who did not pass. If several players have five cards of the same suit, the player who has them in the trump suit wins, and if this also matches, the player with the higher cards. The ace counts 11 points, the picture cards each 10 points and the number cards each their number. The Mistigri, i.e. the Jack of Clubs, can be used as a joker for any color, so that a player with four cards of one color and the Mistigri also wins.

If neither player has five cards of the same suit, the winner of the game is determined by tripping. The forehand player plays a first card and all other players have to stick it with a higher value in the same color if possible. If a player cannot play the suit he has played, he must trump it with a trump, and if he cannot trump either, he discards any card. The player with the highest card of the suit led wins the trick and if trumps are played, the player with the highest trump wins. The winner of the trick plays the next card to be taken again. For every trick that a player takes, he gets a fifth of the bet. If a player does not get a single trick, he is “ Bête ” (French for “stupid” or “beast”) and has to pay the basic bet again.

history

Mistigri or Monk is a card game that has been known and documented for several centuries. According to Kastner & Folkvord 2005, it was mainly played in pubs and in family circles and received a "rather dubious reputation" as a game of chance . The Loo , which is widespread in the Anglo-Saxon region and is known as a 5-card and 3-card game, is also derived from this game . Also related are the card games Ramscheln and Mauscheln , which are widespread in German-speaking countries , in which only one player is allowed to exchange his hand of cards for the so-called "widow". The Bourré was also developed in France, the Julep in Spain and, based on the Loo in Ireland, the Irish Loo . Further variants of the game are Nordic Thumper , Cucumber , Toepen and Hasenpfeffer .
