Coordinates: 35 ° 1 ′  S , 138 ° 38 ′  E The City of Mitcham is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . Mitcham is part of the metropolis of Adelaide , the capital of South Australia. The area is 72 km² and has about 65,000 inhabitants (2016).

Mitcham is located in the center of Adelaide about 6 km south of the city center. The area includes 32 neighborhoods: Bedford Park, Belair, Bellevue Heights, Blackwood, Brown Hill Creek, Clapham, Clarence Gardens, Colonel Light Gardens, Coromandel Valley, Crafers West, Craigburn Farm, Cumberland Park, Daw Park, Eden Hills, Glenalta, Hawthorn , Hawthorndene, Kingswood, Leawood Gardens, Lower Mitcham, Lynton, Melrose Park, Mitcham, Netherby, Panorama, Pasadena, Springfield, St Marys, Torrens Park, Upper Sturt, Urrbrae and Westbourne Park. The administrative headquarters of the council is located in the Torrens Park district in the northern half of the LGA, where around 2600 residents live (2016).

The Mitcham City Council has 13 members. 12 Councilors are elected by the residents of the six wards (two each from Babbage, Boorman, Craigburn, Gault, Overton and The Park). These six districts are determined independently of the districts. The council chairman and mayor (mayor) is also elected by all residents of the city.
