Coordinates: 35 ° 2 ′  S , 138 ° 33 ′  E The City of Marion is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . Marion belongs to the metropolis of Adelaide , the capital of South Australia. The area is 55 km² and has about 88,000 inhabitants (2016).

Marion is located roughly in the middle of the Adelaide coast to the Saint Vincent Gulf, southeast of the city center.

The area includes 26 neighborhoods: Ascot Park, Bedford Park, Clovelly Park, Darlington, Dover Gardens, Edwardstown, Glandore, Glengowrie, Hallett Cove, Marino, Marion, Mitchell Park, Morphettville, O'Halloran Hill, Oaklands Park, Park Holme, South Plympton, Plympton Park, Seacliff Park, Seacombe Gardens, Seacombe Heights, Seaview Downs, Sheidow Park, Sturt, Trott Park and Warradale.

The administrative headquarters of the council is located in the Sturt district in the center of the LGA, where around 2500 inhabitants live (2016).

The Marion City Council has 13 members. 12 Councilors are elected by the residents of the four wards (three each from South, East, West and Central Ward). These four districts are determined independently of the districts. The council chairman and mayor (mayor) is also elected by all residents of the city.
