Mithrobuzanes (Sophene)

Mithrobuzanes from the Orontid dynasty was in the 2nd century BC. Chr. Ruler of the east of the present-day Turkey situated Hellenistic kingdom Sophene .

Zariadris , the father of Mithrobuzanes, had removed the Sophene from the Seleucid Empire after the Battle of Magnesia (190/189 BC) and assumed the title of king. When he around 163 BC Died, his son Mithrobuzanes stayed in neighboring Cappadocia , while his other son was in Armenia . The Armenian king Artaxias I then suggested to his Cappadocian colleague Ariarathes V to kill the sons of Zariadris and to divide the Sophene between their two kingdoms. However, Ariarathes left Mithrobuzanes unmolested and he was able to take over the rule in the Sophene.

It is not known when Mithrobuzanes died. Orontes IV. , Who lived around 93 BC. By Tigranes II. , A great-grandson of Artaxias I, when King of Sophene was deposed, was probably his son.
