development
Development of the Type 89 began in 1980. By 1984, four prototypes were developed and tested until 1986. The purchase decision was made in 1989, hence the type designation. When production started there was a demand for 300 vehicles, but after the end of the Cold War the demand was greatly reduced. At the end of 1999 only 58 armored personnel carriers were in service, in the same year only two more were bought. Only one in the following year. The main producers are Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Komatsu Limited.

In the middle of the hull is the two-man turret with the 35 mm machine gun with double belt feed. It has a rate of fire of 200 rounds per minute and is manufactured under license in Japan. A 7.62 mm Type 74 machine gun is mounted parallel to the axis . On the left and right of the tower there is an anti-tank guided weapon type 79 Jyu-MAT. The gunner sits on the left in the turret, the commander on the right. There are laser alarms attached to the outside of the tower, as well as two smoke throw systems .
The six tank grenadiers sit in the back of the hull . You get in or out of the tank via two doors that open outwards. There are six places where you can shoot from the inside out, each of these places has a corner mirror.
