Mitsuko Kusabue ( Japanese 草 笛 光子 Kusabue Mitsuko ; born October 22, 1933 in Yokohama ) is a Japanese actress and voice actress .

Life

Mitsuko Kusabue was born in Yokohama in 1933. After working as a dancer in a revue group in Tokyo , she began her career as an actress in 1953 at the age of twenty. In the first years of her film career, Kusabue was mainly seen in supporting roles. Her first leading roles in 1964 included Midareru on the side of Hideko Takamine and Yūzō Kayama .

In 1976, Kusabue played a supporting supporting role in Kon Ichikawa's drama Inugami-ke no Ichizoku . In 2006 a remake of the film of the same name was made under the same director, in which Kusabue again took on a role. It became Ichikawa's last film before his death two years later. Kusabue's recent film appearances include a bedridden old woman in the 2014 drama 0.5 Milli and a supporting role in the 2016 comedy The Magnificent Nine , which is based on the Jidai-geki film genre .

In addition to her film career, Mitsuko Kusabue has increasingly appeared as an actress in television series since the 2000s. She also appears sporadically in the theater and played the role of Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago in 1983 and Jacqueline in La Cage aux Folles in 1993 .

Kusabue's work as a voice actress includes the Japanese voice of Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple in the television series Agatha Christie's Marple , which she took on in seasons two and three. She also appeared as a voice actress in the Japanese animes Agatha Christie no Meitantei Poirot to Marple and Yuki no Joō - The Snow Queen .

Mitsuko Kusabue was married to the composer Yasushi Akutagawa from 1960 to 1962 . The marriage ended in divorce.
