The Central America Trench (also called Mexico Trench or Guatemala Trench ) is a deep sea channel up to 6662 m deep and 2500 km long in the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean .

The Central America Trench is located off the Pacific coast of Mexico , Guatemala , El Salvador , Nicaragua and Costa Rica in the northwest, north and northeast and the Guatemala Basin in the southwest. It lies between 9 and 21 ° north latitude and 86 and 107 ° west longitude .

The deepest point of the elongated Central America Trench , which was created (or continues to develop) through the subduction of the Cocos Plate under the North American Plate , is located about 150 km southwest of the Mexican border town of Tapachula and extends to a depth of 6662 m.
