First ascent August 8, 1868, together with the Schildspitze and the Hohen Angelus by Julius Payer, led by Johann Pinggera and hunters not known by name

The Mittlere Pederspitze is a 3462  m (according to other information also 3466  m ) high mountain in the Ortler Alps in South Tyrol . It rises in the subgroup of the Lasa Mountains between the Martell Valley and the Lasa Valley and is part of the Stilfserjoch National Park .

Location and surroundings

The Mittlere Pederspitze is the highest of the numerous peaks that rise in the ridge between the Martell Valley and the Lasa Valley. The said ridge runs in the partial area of the Middle Pederspitze in a west-east direction. The closest peaks are the Schildspitze ( 3461  m ), which is almost the same height in the west, and the Outer Pederspitze ( 3406  m ) in the east . The Middle Pederspitze was formerly completely enclosed by glacier surfaces. While the Laaser Ferner still stretches to the north , the glaciers (Middle and Outer Pederferner) that were once located to the south have disappeared.

Alpinism

The first known ascent of the Mittlerer Pedespitze dates back to August 8, 1868. At that time Julius Payer , Johann Pinggera and, in particular, hunters who were not known by name reached the summit. They climbed from the Martell valley via the Pedertal and finally the Middle Pederferner. At the summit, Payer took several hours of mapping. Then Payer and his companions crossed the ridge to the Schildspitze and finally reached the Hohe Angelus via the Rosimjoch and the Laaser Ferner .

The ascent of the relatively seldom visited Mittlerer Pederspitze no longer requires contact with the glacier. From the Martell Valley, a marked path leads through the Pedertal to the Schildspitze, from there the Mittlere Pederspitze can be reached quickly by crossing a ridge. Alternatively, direct climbs connected with easy climbing are also possible from the Pedertal.
