Mitu Iwa (from Japanese 三 つ 岩 'Three Rocks' ) is a striking rock formation on the Prince Harald Coast in Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica . It rises to the east of the Flatvær archipelago on the banks of the Lützow-Holm Bay .
Aerial photographs and measurements of Japanese Antarctic expeditions between 1957 and 1962 were used to map them. Japanese scientists named it descriptively in 1972 because it appears covered with snow like three individual rocks.
