Mix1  is a German  online magazine that was launched in 2005 by the Berlin DJ Matthias Baran. The main focus is on music charts , CD reviews, music news and music videos. The editorial office is located in  Hohen Neuendorf ( Brandenburg ).

history

In 1996 the previous project Musikbranchenbuch emerged from a disc jockey homepage. It was a directory with thousands of entries on the subject of music. Today the music industry directory is integrated into the Mix1 portal.

In 2002, the first ideas for today's music portal emerged under the name Hit1. After the provider at that time accidentally deleted the domain hit1.de in 2005 and the new provider played a dialer on the domain, the entire project was played on the new domain mix1.de. The domain hit1.de could be regained through legal action. The operator decided to leave the portal on mix1.de. Today hit1.de is a small part of the Mix1 music portal.

In 2006 a license agreement for the publication of the German charts on Mix1 was signed with Media Control . This license enabled the portal to offer not only many genre charts but also the official German sales charts and has thus grown into one of the most important chart information portals. This contract was taken over by the later charter agent GfK Entertainment . Due to the corona crisis , the cooperation was ended in 2020.

In 2007 the portal developed the Nr1-Finder, a research tool for number one hits with the top rankings from Germany, Great Britain and the US charts. The Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin described the tool in 2016 as the "number one oracle". Radio stations like Radio Ostseewelle and R.SA use the Nr1-Finder-Tool regularly for listener actions.

In 2015, the then video media partner MUZU.TV filed for bankruptcy. Mix1 had to delete thousands of music videos within a very short time because they were no longer accessible. Since then, the portal has only integrated official music videos from the YouTube platform .

In 2016 Mix1 received the approvals to publish the iTunes charts and Google play Music charts. This enabled the chart offer in the download area to be expanded. The portal now has over 40 chart lists. The categories range from the Official Airplay Charts to Schlager, Classical, Rock and HipHop Charts to the Official German Charts.

In May 2017 a cooperation with the ADTV dance schools was concluded. Since then, the official ADTV dance school charts have been available via Mix1.

In 2019, a cooperation with the Berlin-based photo agency Imago was concluded. As part of the collaboration, mix1 puts its concert photo archive online. This gives other media access to the image material and can use it for editorial purposes.

Media partnerships

Mix1 supports numerous music productions as a media partner. Labels like TELAMO, Edel Music, DA Music and Sony Music have worked with Mix1 in the past. In 2017, a product supported as a media partner entered the official German charts at number 21.

Awards

In 2011 Mix1 received the "Sound Music Award" in the category "Specialist award for the best online performance".

In 2012 Mix1 received the German DJ Award, which was presented by the Discjockey Association (BVD eV).
