Mjeda (noble family)
The Mjeda are a noble Catholic family from Albania .
history
The Mjeda family tradition claims that they descended from the Dukagjini dynasty , which ruled northern Albania in the 14th and 15th centuries. (The Dukagjini derive from Duke Gin Tanusio (Dux Ginius Tanuschus), who was first mentioned in 1281, while Ottoman chronicles of the 15th century mention them as “princes of German origin”).
The family got its name from the place Mjeda in the Zadrima , near Shkodra , where they owned an estate, and were founded in Shkodër since the early 18th century. The family has two branches: the Mjeda of Prizren and the Mjeda of Shkodra. The Mjeda of Prizren became the city's leading Catholic family and traded between the Italian peninsula , Constantinople and the Balkans .
Over the centuries, family members have included merchants, landowners, clergymen, and political leaders. Today their representatives live mainly in Albania and Croatia .

- Lazër Mjeda (1869–1935), Bishop of Sapa 1900–1904, Archbishop of Skopje 1904–1909, Archbishop of Shkodra 1921–1935.
- Kol Mjeda , Mayor of Shkodra (1924–1925), Vice-President of the National Assembly of Albania , Prefect of Dibër .
- Lukë Simon Mjeda , merchant, landowner and Prizren MP to the Prizren Second Division in 1943.
