Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba
Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba (born March 7, 1960 ) is a politician and diplomat from Botswana . She is the daughter of the former President of Botswana, Ketumile Masire , and Ambassador for Botswana in Germany.
Life
Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba was born in 1960 as the daughter of the former President of Botswana, Ketumile Masire , and his wife Gladys Olebile Masire , née Mogwera. She studied at the Chelsea College of Science and Technology at the University of London until 1983 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in electronics and physics. In 1990 she earned a Masters of Business Administration majoring in finance and international business from the University of Pittsburgh in the United States . In 2011 she completed a Bachelor of Laws at the University of South Africa (UNISA) and in 2013 she completed an advanced management program at the University of Navarra (IESE) in Spain.
From 1986 to 2002 she worked as the assistant engineer to the group manager for Botswana Telecommunications Corporation . From 1998 to 1999 she was also a business developer for the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization in London, responsible for the Africa and Caribbean region. Between 2003 and 2007 she was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority, before serving as Deputy Secretary General for the Commonwealth Secretariat, the central body of the Commonwealth of Nations , in London from 2008 to 2014 . The following year she was nominated in the elections in Malta as Africa's candidate for the office of Secretary General, but lost two votes in the election of Patricia Scotland from Dominica .
From 2014 to 2018 she was Senior Advisor for the Customs Union of Southern Africa (SACU) in Namibia as well as Managing Director of Crown Agents and advisor for the communication strategy of COWI, a national spatial development plan for Botswana on behalf of the Botswana government. She led the election of Commonwealth election observers in Lesotho in 2017 and was on the National Democratic Institute's observation team for the presidential election in Ghana in December 2016.
Since February 8, 2019, she has been accredited as Ambassador for Botswana in Berlin. She was appointed Botswana's second ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and succeeded Tswelopele Cornelia Moremi, who died on March 26, 2018 .
Masire-Mwamba is married to Trevor Mwamba , former Bishop of Botswana and Rector of St. Margaret's Church in Barking , East London . She is the mother of three children.
