The Mobay Chemical Corporation was a joint venture between Bayer AG and Monsanto , headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania . Mobay was founded in 1954 when Monsanto wanted to acquire licenses from Bayer to manufacture polyurethane foams in the United States. Bayer, however, proposed a joint venture. Following an antitrust process, Monsanto sold its stake in Bayer in 1967, so that Mobay Chemical Co. became a 100% subsidiary of Bayer. In 1992 Mobay was merged into Miles Laboratories, another Bayer subsidiary.

Mobay produced the insecticides Fenamiphos and Isofenphos . Mobay was also one of the suppliers who supplied dioxin- contaminated 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid for the manufacture of Agent Orange , which was sprayed in Operation Ranch Hand from 1962 to 1972. However, Bayer stated in the "taz.die tageszeitung" in 2016: "Neither Bayer nor any of our subsidiaries have ever supplied herbicides for Vietnam to American military agencies". "Contrary to the current Wikipedia presentation, the then Mobay and today's Bayer AG were not involved in the Agent Orange affair". In the US court case in 2003, in which, among other things, the organization of the Vietnamese Agent Orange victims appeared as the plaintiff against 26 chemical and pharmaceutical companies, Bayer was not named among the accused.

In 1973 Mobay invented the reaction injection molding process.

1990 Mobay and refused Occidental Chemical Corporation , the Ministry of Defense of the United States with thionyl chloride , which for the production of sarin should be used to supply.
