history

Mobistar was founded in 1996 as a joint venture between Telinfo and France Télécom. In 2000 France Télécom bought the British Orange plc and in the course of this also took over a 50% stake in the Belgian competitor KPN Orange . The resulting double participation in the Belgian mobile communications market was adjusted through the sale of the Orange stake in KPN . Unlike France Télécom and many of its subsidiaries, Mobistar was not renamed "Orange" over the years. Mobistar is still majority owned by Orange today .

Mobistar also includes the “no-frills” prepaid provider “Simply by Mobistar”. Mobistar also makes its network available to the Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize for its prepaid offer.

Mobistar has 1585 employees (31-12-2010).
