The Modefachschule Sigmaringen is a private educational institution in Laiz , a district of the city of Sigmaringen in Baden-Württemberg , which has been operating as a non-profit GmbH since 2009 . With official approval from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport , it currently runs two courses of study: supplementary school , state-recognized three-year vocational college for fashion design and substitute school , state-recognized three-year vocational college for fashion and design . The fashion school has been sponsored by the Christiane and Hartmut Hopf Foundation since December 2010 .

history

founding

The school was founded in Sigmaringen in 1974 and is a successor to the Alf fashion school . Before that there were numerous previous institutions, such as cutting and sewing schools, tailoring schools and fashion schools under the direction of the Groß and Hopf families.

recognition

The school was officially recognized in 1995. From the school year 2009/10, the three-year vocational college: fashion and design course was set up at the Sigmaringen fashion school as a substitute school with official approval. This course leads to a state-certified designer (fashion) (f / m) , also offers the opportunity to obtain the technical college entrance qualification, and is financially supported by the state. Furthermore, it is planned that the fashion students will have the opportunity to take the Chamber of Crafts examination at the end of the three years and receive the tailor's apprenticeship certificate.

Foundation, endowment

At the end of 2010, the Hopf couple founded the Christiane and Hartmut Hopf Foundation . With this they want to secure the continuation of their life's work, the fashion school Sigmaringen. The foundation was recognized as having legal capacity in November 2010. The notarial certification with the transfer of the foundation's assets took place at the beginning of December 2010. The foundation is intended to enable financially weak talented applicants to attend fashion school and to support school and students in every respect.

building

The school is located in a former knitwear factory. The Mestri building was converted into a modern school building with modernster technology and the latest in safety technology since 1990 gradually. In 1994 the Hopf couple sold a large part of the area next to the school to a property developer with the condition that they build small student apartments there. The school is currently being expanded and expanded. These structural measures should also be completed by spring 2011 at the latest.

education

With around 200 students and over 40 employees, it is one of the larger fashion schools in Germany. The school provides practical training for fashion designers. Since 2009, you have been able to choose directions of inclination, i.e. the direction of bespoke tailoring, industry, graphic design, couture and others. The qualifications correspond to the activities of a fashion designer, designer for fashion, graphic designer for fashion and, depending on inclination and choice, clothing technician, product manager, model maker and fashion draftsman and illustrator. The school has its main location in Sigmaringen; there is a branch in Mannheim.
