Mofongo

A mofongo is a nutritious dumpling from the Caribbean region that is made from the abundant plantains (Spanish: plátanos). In addition to ground banana cookies, garlic , olive oil , bacon , poultry or pork are used in the preparation .

Due to the high content of protein and carbohydrates , a feeling of satiety sets in very quickly during consumption. Regular consumption can also increase the cholesterol level . A rarity in Europe , the mofongo is a popular dish, especially in Puerto Rico , but the Caribbean dumpling is also available in areas with a high number of Hispanic residents, for example in North America .
