Mohamed Soliman

Mohamed Soliman (born June 26, 1878 , † September 21, 1929 in Berlin ) was an Egyptian artist , cinema owner and theater director.

Mohammad Soliman came to Berlin as an Egyptian artist in 1900 and was one of the first to open a silent film cinema in Berlin-Rummelsburg in 1906 .

Before the First World War, he headed the oriental department of the Lunapark in Berlin-Halensee . In 1915 he acquired the Linden Cabaret and the Passage Theater at the Kaisergalerie in Friedrichstrasse and converted them into a cinema variety theater, in which he was director until 1923.

He married Martha Westphal from Berlin in 1904 and had three daughters with her, Myriam, Hamida and Adila.

Soliman died in 1929 and was buried in the Islamic cemetery in Neukölln.

Commemoration

On June 26, 2019, a Berlin memorial plaque was unveiled at his former residence in Berlin-Mitte at Oranienburger Strasse 65 .
