Mohammad Reza Mortazavi (* 1978 in Isfahan , Iran ) is an Iranian tombak and daf player and composer .

Life

Both parents were musicians and promoted his musical interests from a young age. At the age of ten he took part in a music competition in Tehran and won first prize, as did in the following six years. He improved his musical finger techniques and sound variations, also by leaving the boundaries of the traditional behind and developing new striking techniques. He composed pieces especially for the competition and thus became popular. From the age of twelve, Mortazavi began to give lessons himself.

Following an invitation from Munich, Mortazavi came to Germany for the first time at the age of 22 to give a solo concert. He unexpectedly met a lot of enthusiasm for his music. This resulted in optimal conditions to publish your own CDs and give further concerts. In 2003 he received the Rudolstadt World Music Prize Ruth . In recognition of his "extended playing techniques and new styles" on the tombak, a tumbler drum of classical Iranian music , he was invited to the international festival for improvised music Total Music Meeting in November 2005 in Berlin to have his own program item as a solo concert and a multi-part workshop shape.

In 2010 he performed a solo concert in the Berlin Philharmonic . Mortazavi took part in the 2011 World Music Expo WOMEX in Copenhagen. In 2013 he began an international solo tour for the album Codex with more than 100 concerts with stops such as the World Music Festival in Shanghai, the Philharmonie Luxembourg , the Cologne Philharmonic and several times in a row at the Fusion Festival . The final concert in 2015 took place in the sold out Samariterkirche in Berlin. In the same year he started the series Transformation in Berlin. The eighth solo album was released under this name in the same year.

Mohammad Reza Mortazavi lives and works as a musician mainly in Berlin , where he also gives master classes.
