Mohammed Ibrahim Suleiman

Mohammed Ibrahim Suleiman (born June 7, 1946 ) is an Egyptian politician .

Life

Mohammed Ibrahim Suleiman became a doctor of engineering doctorate . Since 1980 he has been a professor at Ain Shams University .

Suleiman sits on the board of the Egyptian Civil Engineers Council , is Secretary General of the Society of Canadian Engineers in the Middle East and a member of the Egyptian-Canadian Friendship Society . Suleiman is married with two daughters and one son.

He joined the government of Atif Muhammad Nagib Sidqi as Secretary of State for Housing in October 1993 ; In 1996, in the first el-Ganzuri cabinet , his post was upgraded to ministerial position, which he continued to hold in the Abaid cabinet .

On August 27, 2007, before a parliamentary committee of inquiry, he was asked when his wife and underage children had acquired four plots totaling around one hectare in a suburb of Cairo and three villas in Marina el-Alamein . He stated that he had his fortune before joining the government. Article 158 of the Egyptian Constitution prohibits members of the government from buying or trading in state-owned goods .

On May 18, 2011, charges were brought against the former housing minister. Egypt's attorney general has charged former minister Suleiman and four of his deputies with embezzlement of public funds. With Suleiman the second housing minister is now called to account by the judiciary. ( Ahmed al-Maghrabi , housing minister in the former Nazif cabinet , had previously been charged with illegal property deals). During his time as Housing Minister from 1996 to 2005, Suleiman is said to have handled several questionable land deals with construction / real estate companies. So he should u. a. SODIC, Egypt's third largest construction company, gave state-owned land at a price well below market value. In this context, Magdy Hussein Rasekh, former CEO of SODIC and father-in-law of Alaa Mubarak, is also charged. The investigations had shown that Suleiman and his co-defendant deputies had enabled Rasekh to make illegal profits of LE 907 million (= 114.6 million euros).
